A Checkpoint in Agriculture

February 2026
February on the farm or ranch is a grind. Cold starts, frozen equipment, tight margins and long days with no real break. Most ag men were raised to handle it -- fix what's broken, don't complain, keep going. that toughness is part of what keeps agriculture alive. But even the strongest operations need maintenance.
Mental and physical health go hand in hand, just like land and livestock. Long hours, stress over weather and markets, and carrying the weight of family and employees don't just stay locked in your head. They show up in sore joints, poor sleep, short tempers and health issues that sneak up when you're too busy to notice.
Taking care of yourself doesn't mean slowing down the operation. It means fueling your body so it can keep up, getting in some movement beyond the work that beats you up and paying attention when something feels off -- physically or mentally. It also means checking in on your neighbor who hasn't missed a day but doesn't seem like himself. In agriculture, we watch out for each other because no one else sees the whole picture.
February is tough, but it's also a checkpoint. The work will still be there tomorrow, next month and next season. Make sure that you are healthy enough to keep doing the job and strong enough to enjoy the life that comes with it.
