June is Men's Mental Health Month, a time to recognize the importance of mental well-being among the men who are the backbone for our farms, ranches and rural communities.
In agriculture, strength is often measured by hard work, long hours and the ability to push through challenges. But real strength also means recognizing when the weight of responsibility becomes heavy and being willing to talk about it.
This time of the year brings busy days in the field, harvest season, livestock care and countless demands that don't stop when the sun goes down. While caring for crops, cattle and the land, don't forget to care for yourself as well! A conversation with a friend, a meal with family, a few moments of rest or reaching out for support can make a meaningful difference.
Mental health is just as important as physical health. Just as equipment needs maintenance to perform at its best, our minds need attention and care to stay healthy and resilient.
This June, take time to check in on yourself and the men around you. When you ask the simple question of "How are you doing?" be willing to actually listen. Sometimes the strongest thing a person can do is share what they're carrying.
The work of agriculture depends on strong people, and strong people depend on strong support systems.
Take care of your operation.
Take care of your livestock.
And most importantly, take care of yourself.
