These days we hear a great deal about stress. Stress is unavoidable for most people. Learning how to recognize the symptoms of stress and learning how to manage those symptoms before they take a toll on us or a family member is important. Symptoms of stress can look different for every person:
· Overeating or not eating well
· Headaches
· Sleeping too much or having difficulty sleeping
· Chest pain or palpitations
· Muscle tension
· Fatigue
Combating stress has to be intentional. Common wellness strategies such as exercise and sunshine are key, but more importantly being intentional with that strategy. Other interventions include:
· Taking scheduled breaks throughout day
· Talking to a friend or support person
· Intentional exercise
· Saying “no” when your “plate is full”
· Prayer or mindful breathing
We are a little better at talking about stress in our society, but it is important to take action regarding stress in our daily lives and in the lives of those we love. Acting early can prevent other symptoms or complications. This month try to be intentional with stress reduction and prevention.
